Pawleys Island is a town in Georgetown County, South Carolina and the Atlantic coast barrier island on which the town sits is a magnet for retirees and couples who enjoy culture and recreation. The island is on the southern end of The Grand Strand and is one of the oldest resort areas of the US East Coast. The town of Pawleys Island, though, is only on the island. The island lies off the Waccamaw Neck, a long, narrow peninsula between the ocean and the river. The island is connected to the mainland by two bridges, the North Causeway and the South Causeway. At the southern tip of the island is a public beach access area. Nearby is one of the popular resort, Litchfield Beach. Both retires and younger families love Pawleys Island for its quiet neighborhood ambience, beautiful landscaping and natural areas.
Pawleys Island, nestled under trees full of Spanish moss, is located 25 miles south of Myrtle Beach and is known as one of the oldest summer resorts on the Grand Strand and continues to be known for its shoeless, carefree, laid-back life style, which includes crabbing in the adjacent creeks, fishing, rope hammocks and the unspoiled casual stretch of wide beach and sand dunes. Shopping, dining and golfing is all within easy reach from this Lowcountry paradise where the speed limit is 25 mph and strictly enforced. Plenty of historic homes to see and wonderful seafood to indulge in. Separated from the mainland by a beautiful salt marsh and accessible by two short causeways, Pawleys Island’s visitors have return year after year. This is where the Lowcountry begins, weaving through the live oaks and magnolias, front porches and lazy afternoons.
